The Travis Co-op serves the teachers, staff and families of Travis Elementary, bringing them fresh, local and sustainable produce at an affordable price. Our goal is to foster community, support the Travis Garden Program, and to provide our Members the convenience of picking up their fruits and veggies at school!
What does Travis Co-op do?
We support local farms and sustainable agriculture by giving our members an easy way to buy a variety of local and organic produce each week at a great price. Everything in our shares is either nationally-certified USDA organic or locally grown with sustainable farming practices by farmers we know. Travis Co-op also helps to foster a sense of community among our members and is a not-for-profit program.
What is a Food Co-op?
A Food Co-op is similar to a buyer’s club.
When a group of people collectively pitch in some money and purchase produce in bulk and then split it up amongst the group, you have a food co-op! With a Food Co-op you are able to work directly with the produce growers and distributors.
Who’s organizing the Travis Co-op?
The Travis Co-op is spearheaded by a Travis parent, Christina Cicack. Christina has been a dedicated volunteer with Central City Co-op since August 2011. She has worked volunteer shifts on their floor, represented Central City Co-op at public events and currently updates the Central City Co-op website and their Facebook & Twitter pages. Christina’s passion for organic food and growing practices began in 2008 after discovering the holistic connection that food creates for us. She has two children, Callie who is in Pre-k in Miss Irvington’s class and Jack who is 3. Friend Christina on Facebook!
